Mardi Gras, 2017

When you think of NOLA during Mardi Gras, I'm sure you think of beads and flashing people to get beads. Listen, I did get beads but I did NOT flash anyone to get them. I did see some people flashing for beads on Bourbon St but EYE didn't partake in that mission lolol.

I didn't really know what to expect during Mardi Gras but it exceeded whatever little thoughts I may have had. It was amazing. There was soooo much to do. There was no way we were going to be able to do it all or even explore the city during Mardi Gras but we did a lot!

The first night we got in around 9pm so we stopped by a restaurant and grabbed some drinks to go, I love cities where you can drink on the go. After that we went to witness the end of a parade. This is how we racked up on our beads. Not to mention we went there with a bag of beads from a King Kake that my mom ordered.

The next morning we had breakfast at our hotel (Spring Hill Suites) and it really helped us save some coins. After that we walked over to the Riverwalk Mall where we got our World's Famous Fat Tuesday drinks. We saw Cafe Du Monde but we decided to wait until the next day to indulge.

We figured out how to get around on the street car, thanks to the nice guy that was operating it, and we made our way to Bourbon Street! It was really nice to ride on a street car, I have never been on one before.

We rode as close as we could to Bourbon Street and walked the rest of the way. Everything was pretty quiet and normal until we got to Bourbon Street. It was like night and day. There were so many people walking, playing music, catching/throwing beads. The street was filled with people. The balconies were filled with people. It was like something you see on TV.

We went to Bourbon Bandstand because it was like the only bar playing Trap Music (its the only music that keeps me lit). The bar was amazing. There were so many people there, the DJ was good, the hype men on the mics were hilarious. It was such a great experience.

That night we got to witness a parade and follow the band (please excuse me if I don't use the proper terms). Following the band required A LOT of walking! But it was great music and a great atmosphere.

We woke up the next day and our first mission was to go to Cafe Du Monde. Tasha was determined for that to be our first move of the day. The line was kind of long, but it was worth it.We got to see how they made the beignets, which was really amazing! The taste was even better! It was totally worth the calories.

We went back to the French Quarter after smashing our beignets. We got something to eat at a restaurant called The Famous Gumbo Pot. It was almost like a mom and pop but on a bigger scale. You can tell the food is made with love. Our waitress was really nice and she told us that the owner spends a lot of time in the kitchen preparing the food. I was happy to hear that.

We spent more time on Bourbon Street and hit some different bars. I didn't take many pictures or videos that day. And now that I'm writing it, my memory is escaping me. But I honestly think we spent some time on Bourbon and there was a live band playing so we were able to catch the tail end of their show. NOLA's music scene is very big and we were able to get a small glimpse into that. Later that night we went to a live concert at a local club. It was so nice to witness more live music. If y'all haven't noticed, I love music. I actually can sing, but we won't get into that too much lol.

That pretty much sums up our trip. The next day we got to the airport super early, we left on Fat Tuesday so we checked out early so that traffic, because of road closures, wouldn't hold us up from missing our flight. We ate at a restaurant in the airport to waste time before it was time to check our bags and come back home to cold Maryland.

This post was a long overdue and I am glad I was finally able to share it. Thanks for reading and I hope its inspired you. Talk to you soon!

5 Ways I Recharge

Hey loves! So today I'm going to share a few ways that I recharge when I'm feeling overwhelmed. If I'm being honest, it doesn't take much for me to get overwhelmed. If my mom is reading this I know she is saying, "She isn't lying about that" haha. But because I get overwhelmed very easily, I had to find ways to recharge myself.

Mother's Day weekend was a hectic one for me. Between graduations, birthdays and Mother's Day I had a lot of things on my to-do list. I was overwhelmed days before the weekend hit. So these are some of the tips I used to help me recover from that weekend.

1. Get some rest - This is one of the easiest things to do when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Take nap. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb for a little while and catch some Zs! Or you can go to bed earlier that night. If its a weekday and you can't afford a midday nap, go to bed an hour or two earlier than normal. If I have trouble falling asleep I will take some Melatonin 30 minutes before bedtime. Melatonin is a natural sleep aid that you can get at your local drug store. Research it before you try it though!

2. Have your favorite snack or dessert - I know we are all about looking good for the spring and summer months but sometimes you need something sweet as a pick me up. Portion size is very important, don't have too much. A nice little sweet snack always makes me feel better. I don't do this one as often as the others but it really does help I mostly do this one when I'm in the middle of a really busy moment.

3. Listen to relaxing and/or your favorite music - I have been listening to calming/my favorite music for as long as I can remember. Music really puts me in a better mood when I am overwhelmed or stressed out. I'll listen to some Neosoul music or whatever album/songs I'm feeling at the time. One album that is a go-to for me is MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 by Lauryn Hill. All of those songs really help calm me. So listen to whatever will have you feeling more like yourself after a busy season/moment.

4. Watch Youtube - This one might sound weird but I love to watch Youtube videos. I get on Youtube pretty much everyday. I'll watch a few videos before bed to relax my mind. Watching makeup videos or daily vlogs really give me some time to watch someone else and not focus on what is going on in my life. Youtube is definitely my TV. But if you're not into Youtube watch an episode of your favorite show or Netflix series.

5. Travel/Day trip - Most times I get super overwhelmed right before a trip. Things at work always seem to go haywire when its my last day before a trip. The phones ring off the hook, tasks and projects come in from left and right, its always a mess. So I most definitely enjoy my trip because its a way of getting away from all of that craziness. And I'm not saying go on an extravagant/expensive trip. If you live close enough to the beach (weather permitting) go spend a few hours there. Let the wind blow in your hair. Take a road trip to a neighboring city and explore it for the weekend. Anything that can get your mind off of the stress that's behind you and get you feeling recharged.

I hope these tips helped you! Also please share any tips you may have in the comment section. Until next time!
