I know this is going to sound bananas to most, but I just came off a 30 day social media fast/break. YES, THIRTY DAYS. It all started about 2 weeks before I actually started fasting. I was getting annoyed with social media so I did a social media cleanse. On Facebook, Instagram & Twitter I went and deleted anyone that I did not know. So when a friend recommended fasting for the month of November, I was more than happy to give up social media. It was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made.
The one thing I learned to do, while on this fast, was enjoy the company of those around me. I spent less time on my phone and more time actually engaging in meaningful conversations.
Although I wasn't on social media, my social life didn't stop. I spent a lot of time with friends and family. A lovely girls night with my college roommates and friends, an eventful weekend with friends who came to visit from Indiana and South Carolina, and a fun midnight bowling where I saw old friends and met new people. As well as a wonderful Thanksgiving day with my family.
KARIS' 26TH BIRTHDAY
My friend Karis would have been 26 on November 8th so two of my very good friends came into town to visit. I showed them around, we did a lot of shopping, and we visited Karis' grave on her birthday. While my friends were here I was really able to spend quality time with them. I wasn't worrying about the jokes on my Twitter timeline or the latest celebrity gossip on Instagram.
Destini and Kaylin came in from Indiana and South Carolina, respectively. I hate that we are so far apart in distance, but I am so glad that I can visit their home states whenever I would like.
Out of all the things we did, I think we mostly enjoyed going to Sugar Factory. It was small, but it was nice. The drinks were good, the vibe was great. They played all Hip Hop tunes and we were able to laugh and joke in a nice environment. It's great to be able to play party music without the stresses of having to dress up and do your makeup. It was the perfect way to bring in Karis' birthday and celebrate her life. We made a sad day, end in an eventful way, and I will forever cherish it.
GIRLS NIGHT & MIDNIGHT BOWLING
There's nothing like spending quality time with your closest friends. And because most of us were fasting together, all of our phone were put away, minus a few, snapping away and finding a cool playlist for our mood. We talked about every thing under the sun from Jesus, to trap music, to our love lives. And we made a meal and drank wine while doing it. Probably one of my best chill nights of 2015.
I forgot how much fun bowling really is. I hadn't been in a while so I was very rusty. It took me a while to get that hang of it but I left with about 3 or 4 strikes. That's good, for me. It was nice to get together with all my college friends and meet some of their friends. I didn't realize how much fun doing an activity that I used to do as a kid would be. My friends and I definitely plan on going roller skating soon! Now, that's something I'm actually good at.Of course we took
We took absolutely zero pictures both nights, so sorry I don't have any to share.

THANKSGIVING
A major holiday came and went during the end of my fast, Thanksgiving. Besides social media, I was also fasting sugar and fast foods. Great time, right?! I totally didn't think about all the cake I was going to miss out on. Ugh, but my body thanks me for not packing on all those calories. My family had lemon glaze cake, sweet potato pie, apple pie AND ice cream. I'm not a pie eater but that lemon glaze cake and vanilla bean ice cream were calling my name, y'all.
I always enjoy spending time with my Grandmuffin, because that lady tells some good stories. And they are all funny! This picture was taken in between all the laughs we shared that day.
HALLOWEEN
Right before fasting, literally the day before, I went to a Halloween party that my friend Brittanee hosted. It was a nice way to go out with a bang, so to speak. I normally don't celebrate Halloween or dress up, but for Brittanee, I did. I was dressed up as a Chola (Westcoast Latina gangster) and I had so much fun doing my makeup for this look.
Even though I was fasting, and haven't been traveling, I've still been enjoying life. I truly believe that sometimes we need to disconnect from everything that consumes us to really grow. I've learned a lot about myself during this time. I really encourage everyone to fast something that is consuming you for at least 15 days. You will most certainly see a difference.
I hope I have inspired someone to fast or just to take a step back and get to know themselves better! See you in my next post!
Peace&Love,
Janisha
